Library-Initiated Programs Policy

Library‑initiated programs support York County Library’s mission by offering the community opportunities for learning, enrichment, and recreation.

​

Program Delivery

  • Most programs are created and led by trained library staff.

  • The Library may partner with community groups, cultural and educational organizations, and professional presenters to offer co‑sponsored programs. All co‑sponsored programs must follow all Library policies.

  • Registration may be required when space is limited or for planning needs.

Access & Representation

  • The Library seeks to offer a wide range of programs that reflect the variety viewpoints and cultures of our community.

  • All programs are free and open to the public.

  • Library sponsorship does not imply endorsement of program content or participant viewpoints.

  • For concerns or complaints about programs please follow the Library’s established procedures for reconsidering materials.

Program Selection Criteria

Staff consider the following when selecting program speakers, and resources:

  • Alignment with the Library’s mission and policies

  • Community needs and interests

  • Available space

  • Quality of presentation

  • Presenter qualifications

  • Budget

  • Historical, educational, or artistic value

  • Connection to community events or partnerships

  • Relevance to Library collections and services

Intended Audiences & Accessibility

  • Many programs are designed for specific age groups or audiences based on educational goals and interest.

  • Staff strive to make programs accessible and will consider reasonable accommodation requests.​​
