Children and Vulnerable Adults in the Library Policy

South Carolina law defines a vulnerable adult as someone 18 or older who cannot adequately care for or protect themselves due to a physical or mental condition.
​
A caregiver must be a responsible person 18 or older.
​
Children in the Library:

Children 12 and older may be in the library without a caregiver.

Children 11 and younger must be with a caregiver at all times.

Children Attending Library Programs:

Children 5 and under must stay with their caregiver during the entire program.

Children 6 and older may attend a program on their own, but the caregiver must remain in the building.

Vulnerable Minors and Adults:

Vulnerable minors and adults must be accompanied by a caregiver at all times.

Safety Notice:
-
Unaccompanied children or vulnerable adults will be reported to the appropriate authorities.
