Patchwork Tales regional teller Suzette Hawkins views storytelling as a traditional art form that can promote literacy, imagination, and moral values. Suzette began telling stories in 1982 after attending the National Storytelling Festival and has been an emcee and storyteller for Patchwork Tales in the past. Her stories range from humorous tales to ghost stories and other tales that lead the listener through a gamut of emotions.
Ramona Moore Big Eagle is an oral historian and Legend Keeper from the Tuscarora Nation of North Carolina. Her storytelling is interactive, using artifacts, crafts, and drumming. She tells her Native American stories dressed in full regalia and is the founder and president of the Storytellers Guild of Charlotte.
Jeff Robbins has brought more than 7,000 performances to schools and libraries throughout the United States. His tried-and-true professional show, Mountain Music, Stories and Dance, is enjoyed by audiences of all ages. Most of the instruments Jeff plays were handmade by him and his father, including mandolin, fiddles, dulcimer, several banjos — and a unique instrument called a “One String Pork-n-Bean” guitar.
