All York County Library locations are now open to the public for limited in-person services.

(*Fort Mill Public Library is temporarily closed until December 7 due to Covid-19.)

  • Clover, Lake Wylie, & York: Monday - Friday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. 

  • Fort Mill & Rock Hill: Monday - Friday, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., & Saturday, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Here are some important things to keep in mind when planning a library visit:

  • Please do not enter the library if you are feeling sick or have a temperature over 100.4°F.

  • Due to the City of Rock Hill and the City of York mask ordinances, everyone is required to wear a mask inside our Rock Hill and York locations. For our other branches, masks are strongly encouraged while in the library. We will have disposable masks available if you need one.

  • Patrons and staff must maintain six feet of distance from other people, when possible.

  • Library services inside the branch are limited. The following in-person services are currently available:

    • Browsing and borrowing materials

    • Computer use limited to 30-minute sessions (children’s computers will not be available at this time.)

    • Check out and general assistance at service desks

    • Curbside pick-up of holds and mobile printing

    • Take and Make kits (varies by location)

  • YCL facilities are adhering to occupancy limits, so you may experience a wait before entering a branch.

  • We encourage patrons to keep their browsing visits to 30 minutes.

  • Public programs and meeting room bookings remain suspended. However, virtual programs will continue on the library’s website.

  • Please deposit all returned items in the outside book returns at all branches; interlibrary loan materials must be returned inside the library. All items returned are being quarantined for 96 hours before they are processed, checked back in, and recirculated.

  • Staff are not handling cash at this time.

  • The following are not available at this time:

    • In-house programming 

    • Meeting rooms 

    • Seating areas and tables 

    • Water fountains

    • Toys, puzzles, games, etc.  

    • Close 1-on-1 technical assistance

York County Library is monitoring the coronavirus (COVID-19) with local, state, and national health officials. The spread of COVID-19 presents public agencies with significant challenges. When will the library reopen?

The library is now open to the public for limited in-person services.

Can I sit down and stay a while in the library?
All seating has been removed (except for chairs at public computers). Please limit your visit to 30 minutes.


Are public computers available?
Yes, each location will have computers available for public use. We have reduced the number of available computers to increase the space between workstations. To ensure equal access, we are limiting computer use to 30 minutes. Computer sessions are first come, first served. 


Are copiers and scanners  available?
Yes, we have self-service units available at each library location.


Does the library have Wi-Fi?
Yes, all York County Library locations offer free Wi-Fi access, which is accessible from the parking lots at each library location.


Can I fax items at the library?
The library does not offer fax services to the public.


Is curbside pickup still available?
Yes, curbside pickup is still available during the same hours that the library is open.

How does curbside pickup work?

  1. Place a hold on items you would like to check out.

  2. Wait for a notification that your holds are ready to pick up.

  3. Head to your local YCL location.

How can I place a hold?
You may place holds on the SCLENDS website. For assistance placing holds, you may call your local YCL location.


What if a specific item is unavailable at my local branch?
You may check out or request items from all York County Library locations or SCLENDS libraries and have them sent to the library of your choice. Materials that libraries do not own may be available to borrow from other libraries across the United States through Interlibrary Loan.


Can I get help finding something to read without entering the library?
Yes, you can use our new service, Your Next Read. Answer a few questions on your likes and dislikes. In just 1-3 days you will have a personalized selection of titles to pick from! 


Why am I unable to place a hold with my YCL eCard?
YCL eCards are for accessing our digital content only. If you would like to borrow physical items you will need to first get your eCard converted to a regular York County Library card by calling or visiting your local YCL location.

Do I just go to my local library once I receive notification my hold is ready?
Before you do, please call your local YCL location for pick up instructions. Due to restrictions from parking lot layouts, each location is handling curbside pickup a little differently.

Can I still use the library from home?
Yes! Our Virtual Library is available 24/7 to all YCL cardholders and offers a variety of streaming and downloadable content, including ebooks, audiobooks, television, and movies.

How do I access the Virtual Library if I don't have a library card?
We are now offering the YCL eCard! Simply fill out our online library card application and a staff member will contact you with your new YCL eCard number. Please make sure to include both your email and phone number. 

What do I do if my library card is about to expire?
Call or visit your local YCL location or send us a message on our Contact Us page and we will renew your library card for you. 

Can I return items that I have checked out?
Yes, our outside book drops are still open for the return of Library materials (books, audiobooks, DVDs, and HotSpots; please return interlibrary loan materials inside the library only). We request that you continue to use the book drops for returning materials rather than handing them directly to staff. Please call your local YCL location to notify staff before returning Book Club Kits and Kinder Kits. All returned items will be properly quarantined for up to 4 days (96 hours) before being checked in. Notifications of overdue items will be made during this time, and overdue fees will be waived once items are checked in.   

Why is something I just returned still showing up on my account?
All returned items will be quarantined for up to 4 days (96 hours) before they are checked in. Therefore, items you just returned will still show up on your account. Please wait 6 business days before checking your account. If at that time items you returned are still on your account, please let us know.

Will there be any fines and fees charged for the items I have checked out?
No fines will be charged for items at this time. Late fees may show up on your account. However, those will be removed once those items have been checked in after being quarantined.

Will there be any in-person programs or events when the library reopens? 
Not at this time, but please be sure to check out all of our free online events. You can also join your YCL librarians from the safety of your home with our online virtual programs for all ages! Subscribe to our YouTube channel, join our Teen Discord channel, or call our new Dial-A-Story service to enjoy virtual storytimes, tutorials and instructional videos, fun games, and more. Can I donate books to the library?
Yes, donations of books and other materials are accepted at all library locations to use at the library's discretion. The library cannot accept encyclopedia sets, magazines, Reader's Digest condensed books, textbooks, or materials in poor condition. If your donation consists of multiple boxes, please call your local YCL location first to make sure they have the room to accept your donation.

Can I make a monetary donation to the library?
Yes, monetary donations are accepted for memorials, bequests, or fundraising for our Bucks for Books campaign. See Donations for more information.

How do I contact the library?
You may call your local YCL location during the times listed above. We are also available by email and have a few different forms you can use to contact us: reference questions, teen/ya related questions, and all other inquiries.
