Glenis Redmond to Perform Original Poetry
Glenis Redmond will bring her performance poetry to York County Library on February 8 at 7:00 p.m. in celebration of Black History Month. The event is free and open to adults and students in grades 6 and up. Redmond’s books and CDs will be available for sale after the program and may be autographed.
Raised in an Air Force family, Redmond received her B.A. in Psychology from Erskine College. After working as a counselor for several years and pursuing a PhD in Counseling Psychology at Virginia Commonwealth University, she decided that poetry was her calling. She writes, performs and teaches poetry workshops on a full-time basis.
She has recently been invited to join the national touring roster for the Kennedy Center’s Partnership in Education Teacher Training, where she will lead workshops for teachers on how to make poetry accessible to young people. Drawing on her counseling background, Redmond enjoys working with at-risk teens, using poetry to help them express themselves. She also leads workshops for both amateur and professional writers.
Glenis Redmond’s poetry has been published in literary journals and she is the author of several works of poetry, including “Backbone” and “Under the Sun.” She has also produced an award-winning video, “Mama’s Magic,” and two CDs of her poetry. She is the recipient of the Cary McCray Literary Award and mother to twin teen-aged daughters, Amber and Celeste.
