York County Library to Host Annual Storytelling Festival
York County Library will host Patchwork Tales Storytelling Festival March 30-April 1 at the Baxter Hood Center, York Technical College in Rock Hill, SC. The three-day festival, a celebration of stories, music and literature, is sponsored by the Friends of the York County Library, Comporium Communications, The Herald, and Wal-mart.
The schedule is as follows:
Down Home: Stories and Music for Adults, March 30, 2:45-4:30 p.m. Traditional and contemporary stories will be told by national storytellers Bill Harley and Beth Horner with music by the North Carolina bluegrass band, Polecat Creek. Storytelling Sampler, March 31, 7:00 p.m. - 9:15 p.m.
Master storytellers Bill Harley, Beth Horner, and Diane Ferlatte spin tales for ages 7 and up. Free admission; 2 ½ hours DSS Certification. For advance group seating of 10 or more, call (803) 981-5840 or (803) 981-5837.
Tell It Again Workshop: Creative Dramatics, Songs & Stories, April 1, 8:30-11:45 a.m.
Workshop for educators and other interested adults offers 3 hours of DSS Certification.
8:30-9:00 p.m. - Registration/Continental Breakfast
9:00-10:15 a. m. - Play Time: Creative Dramatics Workshop presented by ACT for Youth, a national touring theatre. Teachers will learn to enhance story time and reading classes by guiding students in improvised performances of stories and poems.
10:30-11:45a.m. - Combining Song and Story presented by Diane Ferlatte Participants will learn to explore different ways to combine singing with storytelling in this interactive workshop. Cost is $15 at the door or $10 in advance by March 20; pre-registration strongly recommended. Limited seating.
Bill Harley Family Concert, April 1, 1:30 p. m.
Bring the whole family for a blend of songs and stories by Grammy nominated recording artist, Bill Harley. Free admission; suitable for all ages. 1 hour DSS Certification.
World of Wonderful Tales, April 1, 2:30 p.m.
Folktales and songs from around the world are creatively presented in this multicultural performance by ACT for Youth. A mischievous Leprechaun and a lively Woodland Fairy are the guides on a fun-filled and educational journey. Free admission; suitable for all ages. 1 hour DSS Certification.
Ghostly Gallery:Eerie Tales for Teens and Adults, April 1, 7:00-8:45 p.m.
Ghosts, goblins and creepy things come alive as national storytellers, Beth Horner and Diane Ferlatte share spine tingling tales. Free admission; suitable for grades 6 and up. For advance group seating of 10 or more, call (803) 981-5840 or (803) 981-5837.
