Friends of the Library to Host Area Authors


The Friends of the York County Library will celebrate 30 years of service to York County Libraries with a luncheon on September 23 at 11:30 a.m. at Chandler Place, 745 Dilworth Lane, Rock Hill. Authors Gwen Hunter and Robert Whitlow will be guest speakers and will have books for sale following the luncheon. Friends of the Library volunteers will also be honored.


The luncheon costs $12 per person and advance reservations are required by September 16. The event is open to the public.

Gwen Hunter is the author of 11 critically acclaimed novels, published in the U.S. and in 22 foreign countries. Her books include the Rhea Lynch, MD, series and the DeLande Saga, which is currently being re-released. She is a long-time Rock Hill resident.


Author Robert Whitlow writes legal thrillers set in the South and is the winner of the Christy Award for Contemporary Fiction. He is a graduate of Furman University and received his J. D. from the University of Georgia School of Law. A practicing attorney in Charlotte, and he and his wife Kathy have four children.


The Friends of the York County Library was formed in 1975 as a support and advocacy group for York County Libraries. Funds raised through the popular book sales held by the Friends four times a year pay for the Vacation Reading program for area children, as well as other programs that are not included in the library budget.
