Checkout and Return Policy
Depending on the type of card you have, York County Library materials can be checked out for two weeks and may be renewed twice, as long as another person is not waiting for the item. Items may be renewed in person or online. See "Types of Library Cards" above for specific loan period and renewal information.
Return materials to any York County Library Location or to the Bookmobile. Books may be returned to the outside book return boxes.
Please note: Videos, audio books, and DVDs should not be placed in an outside book return box as extreme heat may damage these materials.
Placing a Hold
Placing a "Hold" on an item puts your name on the waiting list for items that are currently checked out or items at another York County Library location. You must have a valid York County Library card to place an item on hold. To place a hold using the Online Catalog:
- When you find a book, audio book, video, or DVD you want, click "Place Hold" to request the next available copy
- Enter your username (which is your York County Library card number) and password, then click "Login".
- Review the hold details and choose the location to pick up your item.
- Click "Place Hold"
Fines and Fees
When library materials are overdue, you may receive an e-mail notification , or a printed overdue notice will be mailed to you. Seriously delinquent accounts may be turned over to a collection agency. If a DVD or VHS is returned without the case, the purchase price of the entire item will be charged. Please be sure to read the Fines and Fees Policy.
