Q. When is the library open?

Q. How do I get a library card?
You may apply for a library card at any branch in the York County Library system by completing an application and presenting it with identification that contains proof of a current address. Adults and children are eligible for library cards. Please read the Library Card Information for more details.


Q. How many items may I check out on my library card at one time?
Borrower privilages may vary depending on what type of card you have. See the Library Card Guidelines section for more.


Q. May I request a specific book, video, DVD, audio book, or other item from the library?
If you have a current York County Library card, you may request a specific item by visiting or calling your local library branch, or using York County Library's online catalog.


Q. If my local branch does not own a specific book, is there any way to borrow it from another library?
You may check out and request items from any branch in the York County Library and have it sent to the branch of your choice through the library's courier service. York County Library also has Interlibrary Loan privileges through the South Carolina State Library and Solinet so that items may be borrowed from the State Library collection as well as many other libraries across the country.


Q. Does the York County Library have Internet access?
Yes. York County Library has 21 Internet-accessible computers at the Main Library in Rock Hill, 10 at Fort Mill Public Library, and 4 each at Clover Public Library, York Public Library, and Lake Wylie Public Library. Some of these computers may be designated for specific used such as for children, reference only, or genealogy research. See the locations page for details.


Q. How do I get to use the computers with Internet access?
You must sign the York County Library Computer Use Agreement to be able to use computers with Internet access. Visit one of the Technology Centers located at the Main Library Branch in Rock Hill or the Fort Mill Library, or the circulation desk at any branch. Q. Can the library help me learn to use a computer?
The library offers a number of computer classes at the Technology Center throughout the year. Check the Events Calendar to see a list of classes currently being offered.


Q. When is the Technology Center open?
The Technology Center in Rock Hill is open:
Monday - Thursday: 9:15 am - 8:45 pm
Friday - Saturday: 9:15 am - 5:45 pm
Sunday (September - May): 2:15 - 5:45 pm

Fort Mill Public Library's Technology Center is open:
Monday - Thursday: 10am - 7:45pm
Friday: 10 am - 5:45 pm
Saturday: 10 am - 5:45 pm

Q. Does the Library have a copier?
The library has copiers available for public use at each branch. At the Main Library, a copier is located in the Reference Department on the second floor. Copies are 15¢ per page. The library does not have a color copier.


Q. Can I fax items from the library?
The library does not offer fax services to the public.


Q. Does the library have a scanner?
The library does not have a scanner available for public use.


Q. Does the library have a color printer?
The library has black and white and color printers available for public use in the technology centers. There is a charge of 15¢ per page for black and white prints and 25¢ per page for color prints.


Q. What is the Page Turner Award?
The Page Turner Award recognizes good customer service on the part of library staff to our customers - either patrons of the library or coworkers who have extended good customer service to other coworkers. Commendation forms may be filled out by library users and deposited in boxes located in any York County Library Branch.


Q. Can I donate books to the library?
Yes. Book donations can be used in several ways and York County Library reserves the right to make the decision on how to use donated materials.

  • Copies of currently popular titles in very good condition may be added to our collection
  • Materials may be placed in Friends of the Library book sales
  • Materials in ragged or moldy condition or that are otherwise inappropriate for the collection may be recycled or discarded.

Q. How do I donate books to the library?
Book donations are accepted at all libraries in the system. If you have a large quantity of books you may bring them to the garage at the Main Library in Rock Hill. Please call (803) 981-5837 prior to delivery so that storage arrangements can be made in advance.


Q. May I make a monetary donation to the York County Library?
Monetary donations, in the form of memorials or bequests, may be made to York County Library. Please see the donations page or contact the Community Relations department at (803) 981-5837 for more information.
