Ask A Librarian

Our "Ask A Librarian" service can be used to answer brief factual questions (no financial, legal, medical, or tax advice). Make your questions specific and complete and tell us where you have already looked for the answer. For questions for a child, give a grade level or age.

Telephone Reference

Library staff is available to answer questions by phone. Call 803-981-5825 to talk to a Reference Librarian during normal business hours, Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays (Labor Day through Memorial Day), 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Brainfuse is an online tutoring service which offers help from real, live tutors. Brainfuse can be accessed via your computer at home or from the Library’s in-house computers – at absolutely no charge to York County Library cardholders. Live tutors are available Sunday - Saturday from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. EST.

Genealogy Questions

Genealogy questions are subject to copyright laws and the fees listed below. We will send you a letter after receiving your question, and you must send a reply, with prepayment of the hourly charge, to have your question answered.

  • Labor: $25 per hour.
  • Photocopy: 25¢ per page.
  • Microfilm Copy: 50¢ per page.
